Little House on the Prairie, published in 1935, is the third book in the Little House series but only the second that features the Ingalls family; it continues directly the story of the inaugural novel, Little House in the Big Woods. Because of its historical context and its connection to the book series, it is deemed acceptable for use by the FCC to meet federal E/I programming guidelines. The show is typically stripped (run five days a week) in syndication, which is enough to completely cover a TV station's E/I requirements and more.

Eliza Jane Wilder

Mrs. Oleson opposes his plans and cruelly insults Rachel, and when Willie stands up to his mother and defends Rachel against her, she vows not to show up at the wedding. In the event, she does go, but theatrically dressed in black funeral clothes. Nels later reminds Harriet that his mother similarly opposed their marriage, and he says he has never regretted it. Meanwhile, Mrs. Flannery, a childless elderly friend of Laura's, passes away after gifting her big house to Laura and Almanzo, who set about turning it into a boardinghouse, and Willie and Rachel move in as their first boarders.

Nellie finds out that she is pregnant, which comes as a shock to her mother. Charles is elected to represent the farmers of Hero Township at a Grange convention in Milwaukee to consider a proposal that farming machinery should be bought directly from manufacturers, saving money for the farmers. At the same time, Caroline gets an invitation to the 25th anniversary reunion party of her school class of 1856 in the same city, so Charles and Caroline travel there together. They find that some of their old classmates have become financially prosperous, and are on the other side of the proposal by the Grange. However, they are saddened by the state of some of the marriages of their old friends. When they return home, they agree that they are the ones who are really successful and prosperous – with the love of their family.

Season 6 (1979–

Mary Ingalls stayed with the family during her first teaching assignment, but Caleb was just about as hateful to her as Mrs. Peal (e.g., he thought she was lying when she told other members of his family about the telephone). Eventually, he saw the errors of his ways when Mary exposed Mrs. Peal's secret that she is illiterate. When her mother died in 1871, she was taken in and eventually adopted by Isaiah and Grace Snider Edwards upon their wedding day.

At Almanzo's urging, Laura enters a writing contest and produces a novel about the Ingalls family, which Almanzo and Jenny love. After travelling with Jenny to Minneapolis, Laura learns that she has won the contest and she is offered the opportunity to have her novel published. She reluctantly agrees to changes which the publishers want to make, but Jenny convinces Laura that the new version is not as good as her original and should not be published. Caroline responds to a plea for help from a childhood friend, Louisa Beckwith, by travelling with Doc Baker to a mining camp where there is an outbreak of influenza. With Caroline and Hester-Sue run off their feet at the restaurant, Harriet signs up with a franchise which promises greater efficiency and more profit, and the restaurant is renamed "Mrs. Sullivan's Kitchen". Unfortunately, Harriet has not read the small print in the contract, and the onerous conditions result in everyone's life becoming even more busy.

During the confrontation, Sylvia suffers a bad fall, and she later dies in the arms of a distraught, heartbroken Albert. Six months before their planned wedding, Almanzo buys land for free from a Mr. Gray for a farm for him and Laura, but he agrees to a harsh deal that he must pay off the mortgage by a deadline or lose the title. When there is a drought, Gray, who owns the neighbouring farm, dams the stream which also waters Almanzo's land, thereby threatening Almanzo's crop and his ability to meet the deal. Eliza Jane falls in love with Harve Miller (James Cromwell), a friend of Almanzo's who has come to live in Walnut Grove. Laura begins teaching at the Walnut Grove school, but Almanzo strongly objects to the idea of her teaching after they are married, insisting that he will provide for them and will not want her to go out to work.

They carried books, posters, vintage lunch boxes and aprons to get autographed. When she took on the role of Ma, or Caroline Ingalls, Karen Grassle was an undiscovered newcomer. Despite her lack of credits, she auditioned to play Laura Ingalls' no-nonsense mom and won the part. After Little House ended its run, Grassle said adios to Hollywood and moved to New Mexico where she opened Santa Fe’s Resource Theater Company. She did return to California eventually and landed a part in Kevin Costner’s Wyatt Earp.

Kagan then retired from boxing forever and in the remaining years of his life worked as a janitor for the Mankato and Sleepy Eye Blind Schools, occasionally helping blind children stand up for what's right. Married once to a saloon owner, Alice met Jonathan Garvey in 1860 and soon married him. They came to Walnut Grove 15 years later when the town went broke. Alice was a gifted schoolteacher who used just about every method in the book to get her students (including her own son Andy) to learn.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, La Casa de la Pradera (Little House on the Prairie) was one of Spanish Television's most popular series. The continued popularity of the show led to the appearance of Katherine MacGregor (Harriet Oleson) on 625 Lineas and Ding Dong in 1980. Little House continues to remain popular in reruns in syndication. The Hallmark Channel has broadcast the series for years and still does on a daily basis.

A very loving mother and wife, she eventually fell victim to Mr. Edwards' old drinking habits, so a year after John Jr.'s death in 1886, she divorced him and married Nathan Simms (Adam's brother and Mrs. Beadle-Simms' brother-in-law). The townspeople of Walnut Grove are also a staple to the show, and thanks to them the show has some comedic episodes. Soon after, Charles and Caroline have a fourth child, a son named Charles Frederick Ingalls, Jr.
